Před pražským koncertem jsme měli možnost udělat rozhovor s
Jonathanem z Like Torches. Pověděl nám například o tom, jak se jim

Jak se vám pracovalo s Ryanem Keyem a Ryanem Mendezem na vašem nejnovějším albu a co vám to dalo?

Bylo to úžasné. Prostě, když píšete písničky.. a Ryan Key a Ryan
Mendez jsou hodně talentovaní, dělají to už hodně dlouho, takže
myslím, že nám dali zkušenost. Mají hodně zkušeností, které my
nemáme. Mají na to úplně jiný pohled a když jsme jim ukázali songy,
dostali z nich ten smysl. Něco jako „Tohle byste měli vypustit,
tohle bys asi měl udělat dvakrát..“ prostě takové věci. Takže nám
to hodně pomohlo. Byli opravdovými producenty našeho alba, vzali
písničky a pomohli nám je udělat perfektní a bylo to úžasné.

Vždycky si chtěl být muzikantem?

Ano, myslím, že mi bylo asi 13, když jsme s Adamem, našim
kytaristou založili naší první kapelu. Tehdy jsem se rozhodl, že
chci dělat hudbu. Všichni mí kamarádi mi řikali: „Ok, tohle pro
tebe nebude možné…“ Tehdy jsem se rozhodl, že chci být rockovou
hvězdou. Bylo mi 13 a od té doby hraju hudbu každý den.

Jaké to bylo být na turné s Yellowcard a jak se těšíš na další turné s nimi?

Turné s Yellowcard je opravdu super, protože kluky máme opravdu
rádi a opravdu si to užíváme. Poslední turné co sme udělali, jsme
si opravdu užili, měli sme dodávku a oni měli tourbus, takže jsme
jim řikali, že příště chceme být taky v tour busu a oni odpověděli,
že samozřejmě, že to příště tak bude. Takže teď konečně sdílíme
tour bus a je to opravdu zábavné a prostě úžasné.

Máte nějaký přípravný rituál před tím než jdete na
stage?

Jasně, rozdělíme skupinu a připravujem se různě. Daniel, můj bratr
je něco jako tour manager tohohle turné takže vždycky mluví se
všema a ujistí se, že máme pro nás nějaký prostor, kam si dáme věci
a také, že všechno vyjde tak jak má. Jimmy si zas připravuje své
bicí, což zabere hodně času a já většinou pracuju s merchem a také
si připravuju hlasivky. Takže se obvykle rozehřejem a uklidníme
se.

Jaké máte další plány?

Právě teď chcem být na turné tak moc jak to půjde. Máme tohle album o kterém si myslíme, že je opravdu úžasné a chceme ho co nejvíc šířit. Takže opravdu přesně nevíme co příjde. Momentálně píšeme nějaké písničky, takže uvidíme co se s tím stane. Ale hlavně jsme hodně na turné, chceme hrát tak moc jak je to možné.

Byl jsi fanouškem Yellowcard už předtím než si s nimi
pracoval?

Ano, myslím, že když mi bylo asi 13, když sem založil svoji první
kapelu, tak jsem je začal poslouchat. Takže jsem je vždycky
poslouchal a Ryan Key mi byl vždycky vzorem, když sem vyrůstal
stejně jako ostatní kluci v kapele. Je to šílené, že sme dostali
šanci s nimi pracovat. Ve 13 sem ti to nedovedl představit a ani o
5 let později, je to šílené.

Se kterými kapelami by si rád vyrazil na
turné?

Rád bych vyrazil na turné s Rise Against, Paramore, všemi velkými
kapelami. Rád bych se vydal na turné s kapelami, které jsem
poslouchal, když sem vyrůstal jako Senses Fail a Silverstein nebo
kapelami, které nejsou tak velké jako Finch, když to ještě byla
kapela, teď už to kapela neni. Hrali jsme s The Story So Far, bylo
to úžasný, taky bych s nimi rád vyrazil na turné.

Co třeba švédské kapely?

Švédské kapepy – je tu jedna kapela, kterou jsem poslouchal, když
sem vyrůstal jménem Blind Side, taky bych s nimi rád jel na turné,
Millencolin, samozřejmě.

Co ty a české jídlo? Měl si šanci něco
ochutnat?

Ne, neměl. Přijeli jsme ráno a později se půjdem najíst. Takže
opravdu ne, zatím sem nic nevyzkoušel.

Měl si šanci jít a vidět něco zajímavého v
Praze?

Šli jsme se projít po městě a když jsme jeli sem, viděli jsme hodně
velký dům, nevím co to bylo, něco velkého a úžasného a bylo to
krásný. Prostě jsem se šel projít po městě a vypadá opravdu staře,
což se mi líbí. Máme něco jménem Old Town ve Stockholmu a já to
miluju, je to nejlepší část Stockholmu a když sem se procházel
kolem, říkal jsem si „Oh, tohle je pěkný, líbí se mi to.“

Je tu ještě něco, co by si chtěl vzkázat svým českým
fanoušům?

Máme nějaké? Haha, vlastně jsem byl překvapený, když jsem vyšel z
tour busu a tam byli tři různí lidé, kteří mi řekli: „Ahoj, jsi
Jonathan z Like Torches, že?” Nedovedu si to ani představit. Myslím
tím, nikdy jsme nebyli na turné. Nedovedu si to teda představit, že
tu máme nějaké fanoušky, upravdu jsem to nevěděl. Vůbec nevím, co
čekat, jestli tam vůbec bude někdo, kdo zná naše písničky nebo
tak.

How was working with Ryan Key and Ryan Mendez on your
newest album and what did it give you?

It was amazing. The thing is when you write songs, and Ryan Key and
Ryan Mendez are really talented, they’ve been doing this for such a
long time so I think it gave us experience. They have a lot of
experience that we don’t have, they have a whole other way of
seeing everything and when we showed them the songs, they can make
sense out of them. Like: „Maybe you should leave that out, maybe
you should do this twice as much…“, stuff like that, so it really
helped a lot. They were really producers on the album, they took
the songs and helped us make them perfect and it was awesome.

Did you always want to be a musician?

Yes, I think I was 13 years old when me and Adam, our guitar player
started our first band. That was when I decided I want to play
music and all my friends were like: „okay, that’s not going to be
possible for you..“, and that’s when I decided I was like I’m going
to be a rockstar. I was 13 years old and since then, I’ve played
music everyday.

How was touring with Yellowcard and how do you feel about
going on tour with them again?

Touring with Yellowcard is really fun, because we really like the
guys and we’re having a blast when we’re on tour. The last tour we
did, we had a lot of fun, we were in the van, they were on the tour
bus so we were talking to them and saying next time we want to be
on the bus and they said ya we’ll have you on the bus. This time
we’re finally sharing the bus and it’s so fun, we’re having so much
fun- it’s awesome.

Do you have any preparing ritual before you go on
stage?

Yeah, we divide the group and do different chores for the show,
it’s like Daniel, my brother he’s the tour manager on this tour so
he always talks to all the people and makes sure we have our own
space where we can put our stuff and makes sure everything turns
out the way you need it to be and Jimmy has everything he has to do
with the drums, he always has to build the drums and that takes
forever, and I usually work with the merch, and I have a lot of
vocal things to do, I have to warm up before I sing as well. So we
usually just take it easy and warm up.

What are your upcoming plans?

Right now we just want to tour as much as possible. We have this
record, we think it’s really awesome and we want to distribute it
more. So we don’t really know what we’re doing. We’re writing some
songs right now and we’ll see what happens with that. But most of
all, we’re just touring a lot. We want to play as much as
possible.

Have you been a fan of Yellowcard before working with
them?

Yes, I think when I was like 13 years old, when I started my first
band, that’s when I started listening to Yellowcard. So I’ve always
listened to them and Ryan Key has always been a role model for me
when I grew up as well as other guys in the band. It was insane
that we got to work with them. I could never imagine something like
that when I was 13 years old, or 5 years later even, it’s
insane.

Which bands you would really like to tour
with?

I would like to tour with Rise Against, I would like to tour with
Paramore, all the big bands. I would like to tour with bands I grew
up listening to like Senses Fail and Silverstein or even bands that
aren’t big like Finch when they were a band, they aren’t a band
anymore. We did a show with The Story So Far, that was awesome, I
would love to tour with them.

What about some Swedish bands?

Swedish bands – there’s one band that I grew up listening to called
Blind Side, I totally want to tour with them, Millencolin, hell
yes

What about Czech food? Did you have a chance to taste
something?

No, I haven’t. We arrived this morning and we’re actually going out
eating later but ya, I haven’t eaten anything yet.

Did you have a chance to go and see something interesting
in Prague?

We were walking around town and when we were driving here I think
we saw a really big house, I don’t know what it was, something big
and cool and that was beautiful. I’ve just been walking around town
and it looks really old which I really like, we have something
called Old Town in Stockholm and I love it, it’s the best part of
Stockholm and when I was walking around here, I was like oh this is
nice, I like it.

Is there anything else you want to say to your Czech
fans?

Do we have any? Haha I was actually surprised there were like three
different people when I got off the bus saying “Hi, you’re Jonathan
from Like Torches right?“ and I can’t imagine that, I mean we’ve
never been on tour. I could never imagine that we had fans here, I
didn’t know. So it’s really exciting to see tonight, I have no idea
what to expect, if there’s going to be any people knowing our songs
or anything.
